5 Best Pizza Places In NYC

If New Yorkers had to choose a symbol to represent NYC, it would most likely be a slice of pizza. Home of the 24 hour dollar slice shops and some of the most innovative and delicious pizzas in the world, New York doesn’t play games when it comes to our favorite way to eat carbs. We are constantly at war with Chicago for who has the better pizza, but trust me.. after you eat a slice from any of the following places, you’ll understand that we have Chicago beat by a long shot.

Prince Street Pizza: Famous Pepperoni Sicilian Slice

27 Prince St A, New York, NY 10012

You haven’t had a pepperoni slice until you’ve had the coveted pepperoni sicilian from Prince Street Pizza. Located in SOHO, it’s a no frills (and no seats) pizza shop. The walls are covered in photos of some of your favorite celebrities who have scored some of this mind blowing pizza. If you’re lucky, you might even meet one as they pop in! (When I was in line, Johnathan Cheban walked in to order a pie. We spoke. It was awesome.)

The line for this slice is most times out the door and into the street, so be sure to go on a late afternoon, and definitely ask for napkins because this slice is messy. Out of all of the pizzas on this list This one is for sure my favorite. The pepperoni is thick and full of flavor, and the crust is baked perfectly. You get a nice crunch while still having some softness to bite into. Next time you’re in SoHo, be sure to check this place out!

1 Front St, Brooklyn, NY 11201

If you want an authentic Italian dining experience, Grimaldi’s is definitely the place to go. The decor is classic, old school italian and the pizza is no different. While some places  these days are doing new and creative pies to attract the crowds, Grimaldi’s sticks to its roots and delivers exceptional flavor while giving you a kosher experience.

Grimaldi’s is a sit down restaurant style pizza place which only sells by the pie. You have a nice, hefty list of toppings to choose from and each pie is handmade and brought out for your table. You can’t get fresher pizza than that!

Though there is more than one location with its growing popularity, the one to visit is the original located near the Brooklyn Bridge. Grab a camera, a friend and make your way to Front Street to have a fun day out in Brooklyn. Don’t forget to finish your day of fun off with a pie from Grimaldi’s!

Artichoke Basille’s Pizza

111 MacDougal Street, New York NY 10012

So, I’m not ashamed to say that I’ve become so friendly with bartenders on my nights out that I know their children’s names, and that as soon as I walk in they know what drink to pour me. My early 20’s were a bit of a blur, and MacDougal Street in Greenwhich Village was without a doubt my favorite place to party. One of my favorite bars to go to was Off The Wagon, and conveniently located next door (and open late) was Artichoke Basille’s Pizza. I am also not ashamed to admit I have never had this pizza sober, but I can almost guarantee that doesn’t matter because this is hands down the best margherita slice you will find in ALL. OF. MANHATTAN.

Artichoke Basille is known for it’s creative slices, as they are home to the artichoke slice and the crab slice. They also serve some high quality pepperoni slices and their margherita sicilian is tough to beat, but if you’re looking for a fun, high energy neighborhood to have fun and to follow with the best margherita in town, you need to visit the Artichoke Basille on Macdougal Street.

L&B Spumoni Gardens: Square Slice

2725 86th St, Brooklyn, NY 11223

Brooklyn is undeniably the borough that is home to the best of the best pizza places in NYC. If you have never been to L&B Spumoni Gardens, you need to get up from your chair/bed/couch/work desk and go immediately.

L&B Spumoni Gardens is home to the mouth watering old school square slice. The square slice is the star of the show and it is the epitome of what pizza should be, and it has set the bar for pizza places to come. Cheese on the bottom, sauce on top? Sometimes sticking with the classics serves you just right because this is the most highly requested slice and most frequently served. If you go, be sure to order an entire pie and not just a slice, because you will regret not getting more. Also be sure to get some to go. I try to go at least once a summer, but it’s so far from where I live so I make sure that if I do go, I get some for the road. Nothing better than waking up and knowing you have L&B Spumoni pizza in your fridge.

No, seriously. Nothing better.
